Questions concerning reinstatement of a suspended, denied, revoked, barred, or cancelled driver's license need to be directed to the Office of Driver Services in Des Moines at 515-244-8725. County DL stations do not have access to your individual driving record and therefore cannot determine the steps needed for reinstatement.
Driver's License Convenience Fee - Beginning July 1, 2024, customers who do not reside in Fayette County will be assessed a $10.00 convenience fee for driver's license services unless they pay property taxes in Fayette County and provide proof of payment. Collection of the convenience fee is pursuant to Iowa Code 321M.9.
Property Taxes are paid to and collected by the County Treasurer. Fayette County property tax statements are mailed once a year, usually during the first week of August.
The taxes are split into two equal payments payable on or before September 30 and March 31.
Property taxes are based on several factors including the assessed value of the property as determined by the Assessor and the operating budgets of the various taxing bodies. Taxing bodies include school districts, cities, county, townships, assessor, area community colleges, and the county extension service. The Iowa Department of Agriculture also receives property taxes to help fund the Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Eradication Program. Each property tax statement lists the separate taxing bodies and shows how much of your tax each body receives. For an overview of the property tax process, visit the Iowa Department of Revenue website here.
There are various programs available that may reduce your property taxes. Some
of the programs are implemented through the assessor's office. For a list of the programs, visit the Iowa Department of Revenue website here.
Motor Vehicle titles and registrations are processed by the County Treasurer's Office. When PURCHASING a vehicle, the title must be transferred into your name within 30 days of the date of sale shown on the title.
A Bill of Sale - a statement signed by the seller, which identifies the vehicle (year, make, VIN) and includes the purchase price and date of sale - is required for all vehicle and trailer transfers.
When SELLING a vehicle, remove the license plates before the buyer takes the vehicle. If you do not plan to replace the vehicle within 30 days, return the plates to the Treasurer's Office for cancellation.
When moving into the state, you must obtain an Iowa title and registration within 30 days of establishing residency, even though your out of state registration may not be expiring.
